Scholarship Summary
In memory of Dr. Karl Stockhausen, a 2008 graduate of American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC). Dr. Stockhausen planned to spend his life in service of healing others, especially in third world countries. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine, MD, from AUC and, twice, joined surgical teams providing healthcare in Honduras. He worked for three months in La Parroquia, Guatemala, assisting in free healthcare clinics for the indigenous community. At age 24, while in medical school, Dr. Stockhausen was diagnosed with a rare eye disease and at age 26 he was diagnosed with cancer, but Karl was a fighter and finished medical school with honors. The cancer took his life, but it did not diminish his indomitable spirit or will to be of service to others. This scholarship was created by his family and friends to continue his legacy.
